Urwerk UR-110 TORPEDO Watch Hands-On When Urwerk's Martin and Felix wanted to create something new, they had to sit down and think about what they had done before and what they could follow, something unique in the watch world. It's really hard to do that. Even the satellite timing system for which Urwerk is known is not unique to them, having originated elsewhere long ago. Urwerk just took the satellite timekeeping system and made it its own. Torpedoes - also known as UR-110s - do two different things. It slightly modifies the satellite system, offers an interesting new visual spectacle, and puts it in a box that is as original as it is weird. The UR-110 takes some getting used to on the wrist. It doesn't look like any case I've worn before. I jokingly describe this design as a "mutant ninja star" (which obviously only makes sense in my head). Consider the improved winged Urwerk UR-103 case. I guess that makes sense...torpedoes fly underwater, right? If you have a huge wrist, the torpedo might sit just fine, but for me, the wings outstretched like a watch trying to gain altitude. The "cast edges" on the sides of the organic-looking case are nice, and the detailing is certainly on par with a high-end timepiece.wholesale replica watches The dimensions of the case are an awkward 47mm wide x 51mm high and 16mm thick - but that's true for all ranges considering how much the case bends. While it looks like it's sitting on your wrist rather than around it, the watch doesn't feel like it's sliding all over the place because the bottom is mostly flat. As I've said many times, the titanium case looks a bit bare and "unfinished". Some people might like the look, but I'm waiting for the upcoming black case. I expected this model to frame the design of the watch better. Bare titanium isn't always easy to pull off. I also think it would make the design of the watch more manageable if the wings were angled down to wrap around the wrist. Urwerk calls it the UR 9.01 movement, and it's easily the watch's crowning jewel. The movement is automatic, and those cool little "turbines" that spin as the rotors spin are visible through the rear of the watch. Urwerk also points out that the turbine helps protect the rotor from shock damage. Back on the dial, you can see three satellites, each with four hours. When moving around, they always point "forward" as they move. It's cool that the correct hour on the cube rotates as they approach the minute scale. Telling the time is easy, the idea behind the placement of the minute scale is that it is the first part of the watch you see when your arm sticks out from under your sleeve.Breitling Endurance Pro replica The dial also has a small seconds subdial, an "oil change" indicator and a day/night indicator. The oil change indicator is a service guide that will advise you when to return your watch to Urwerk for (expensive) service. It's a nod to those metrics on the car. Additional complications may arise with future changes to UR-110. I think the dial is a bit incomplete. While it's clean, the sandblasted surface feels a little bare for hours under the satellite system. Like I've always said, the torpedoes are pretty good in every way, but it looks like Urwerk could have spent more time perfecting the design - which they probably will. However, the details on the dial are excellent. I'm always impressed by the clear appearance of Urwerk parts - the torpedo dial and mechanism are no exception. Operating the movement is also cool. There's a lid on the crown that you just pull up a little to let it adjust the time. The crown is at the top of the watch. You can see better from the bottom of the 110. In fact - as is the case with several Urwerk watches - I probably prefer the caseback to the dial! That element of the watch is handsome. On the plus side, the UR-110 torpedo is unique, well made and easy to read. At the same time, it could use more design refinements and may take some getting used to on the wrist.
